Picamilon is a nutritional supplement so powerful that it acts like a nootropic drug. By combining a nutrient and a neurotransmitter, this nootropic naturally optimizes your brain cells. You’ll experience a boost in cognitive function and a state of smooth motivation while simultaneously feeling calmer and more relaxed.

Summary

Developed in 1969 by the Russian facility, The All Union Vitamin Research Institute, picamilon was first used as a Russian pharmaceutical from 1986 onwards to treat people with memory and learning problems, loss of brain cells blood circulation, sufferers of brain trauma, and patients with chronic alcoholism.

Over the 1960s and 70s, the Russian scientific community was interested in finding ways to promote mental health through the use of the neurotransmitter GABA. The biggest problem with this approach was that GABA could not cross the blood-brain barrier with ease. Combining it with niacin vitamin B3 solved this problem while producing additional Picamilons benefits.

Its primary function is to quickly restore alertness in mind and body in those who feel drained by stress. Picamilon is loved by those who need their minds to perform at their best while also struggling with stress and anxiety, from students to executives.

Benefits and Effects

Focused, relaxed, and stress-free. There are many people at work today who would love to feel this way more often. Many students, for example, suffer under highly stressful circumstances while simultaneously being required to use the full capacity of their minds. Managers, team leaders, and executives find themselves under increasing mountains of stress and responsibility, not to mention the family they may be taking care of. Yet every day they have to be sharp and on-the-ball.

Picamilon stimulates neural efficiency while simultaneously producing a calming effect of Picamilon. If that sounds like a paradox, imagine a time when you were so stressed that you didn’t know what to do next. Your heart was racing. You were in fight-or-flight mode, and you were primed for action. Somehow, nothing gets done, and if it does, it’s rushed and faulty. You end up making bad decisions based on emotionality rather than logic or reason.

The mind works better when it is calm. The literature on anxiety disorder and performance is quite clear. More anxiety, less performance. When your mind is clear and focused, you know what to do next. You sit down in the morning and started crushing your first task. You are relaxed, calm, and yet your brain is also firing on all cylinders, working faster and more efficiently, seeing more connections, coming up with better ideas, and making better decisions.

Anxiety Reduction

GABA-promoting relaxant supplements like picamilon has been proven to relieve subjects of chronic anxiety and stress. It also promotes alpha brain waves, which studies show indicate a mental health and state of heightened creativity. Users report that the anxiolytic effect or the anti-anxiety effect of picamilon is similar to that of L-theanine. It brings you into a calm and focused state.

Picamilon VS Phenibut

Note: If you suffer from severe anxiety, you might consider Phenibut instead of picamilon. Phenibut is much stronger than picamilon. This is not such a good thing for the average person, as it can induce a sedative effect of Picamilon. However, if your anxiety is strong enough a slight feeling of sedation might be well worth it. Although picamilon also has a tranquilizing effect, it does not induce any muscle relaxation or drowsiness.

GABA Vs Phenibun

Improve Mood & Motivation

Activating GABA not only inhibits anxiety. It also stimulates the release of endorphins – the same biochemical group that enter your bloodstream after working out or after sex. Picamilon’s effect is somewhat more mild, of course, but the same chemicals are there to give you a mild “glow” feeling that can help you overcome self-doubt and inconvenient dips in motivation.

Cognitive Enhancement

Niacin, one of the active components of picamilon, increases cerebral circulation. What that means is the blood vessels surrounding and permutating your grey matter become looser and more efficient. Picamilon is even better at promoting blood flow than prescription drug “vasodilators” (drugs that widen your blood vessels). Efficient blood flow allows your neurons to receive an abundance of raw materials, and waste products are picked up and transported away from the brain quickly. It keeps your mind alert, awake, and efficient.

Improve Working Memory

As this summary of picamilon clinical trials and studies suggests, the supplement enhances learning, short-term memory and long-term memory in rats. It has also been used explicitly to treat sufferers of memory and attention disorders. The reasons for this are unclear, though they likely have something to do with the increase of blood flow to the brain through the brain cells. Thought literally takes energy and resources from your body, and inefficient blood flow can allow hard-working neurons to “clog up” with the “waste-products” of thought. Memory requires firing the same neural pathways repeatedly, so it would stand to reason that clearing those pathways of debris and refueling them would promote recall.

Lower blood pressure

If you suffer from hypertension (which is often increased by stress and anxiety), picamilon is likely to bring your blood pressure down. The other side of this effect is the danger it represents to anyone suffering from the opposite problem – hypotension or low blood pressure. Hypotension is defined as a blood pressure of less than 90/60, which you can check yourself with an inexpensive home blood pressure kit. If in any doubt do not take picamilon or any other vasodilators and consult your medical practitioner.

Better Sleep

Low GABA receptor levels can result in insomnia and night-time anxiety. There’s nothing worse than lying awake at night, an anxious feeling in your chest that seems to be caused by nothing at all, unable to get any sleep as the morning (with all its responsibilities), rushes slowly creeps towards you. By getting more activating GABA into the brain, picamilon supplementation can optimize GABA receptor levels and fix any sleep or health issues that have resulted from the deficiency.

How it Works

Picamilon works via two different metabolic mechanisms of action. One produces the cognitive enhancements, and the other produces the calming effect. The two of them together can allow you to slip into a state of calm, focused productivity.

The two active molecules in picamilon are niacin and GABA.

Niacin vitamin B3 is an essential nutrient that easily passes through the blood-brain barrier. Once inside, it acts as a vasodilator – that is, a substance that dilates blood vessels thus increasing blood flow to the area. The rise in blood flow is what scientists attribute to picamilon’s ability to enhance cognitive processes.

GABA is an important neurotransmitter that lowers the “excitatory state” of neurons. This doesn’t only mean they fire less often. It also means your neurons fire less sporadically. Part of anxiety is an over-stimulated mind that cannot disentangle itself from all the irrelevancies that life tries to tell us are important. Someone who is chronically anxious (say, in sufferers of PTSD or people who get severe panic attacks or bouts of paranoia), has a brain that is telling them that almost everything around them is a potential threat. It’s firing at irrelevant stimuli. By calming down any over-excitement of your neurons, GABA helps you to focus on what’s important and ignore distraction.

The combination of these two molecules makes picamilon powerful. The Russian research facility that developed the drug was trying to find a way to help GABA across the blood-brain barrier. Since niacin vitamin B3 passes into the brain so easily, they tried binding it to GABA molecules. The combination worked like a treat, allowing niacin to pull GABA molecule into the brain at a higher than normal rate. From there, the two molecule complex is hydrolyzed (broken down) into its two constituent molecules. They can then be metabolized by the brain as we’ve described above in large quantities, producing the effects of high cognitive performance and memory (through the vasodilation of niacin) and calmness and relaxation (via the anxiolytic effect: relaxation of GABA).

Note that taking GABA and niacin separately in nootropic stacks will not produce the same effect. In picamilon, the GABA and niacin are bound together on a molecular level, to be disentangled only after they cross the blood-brain barrier.

Picamilon Dosage

We have not had many trials on the correct dosing for picamilon. However, from anecdotal evidence and the experience of hundreds of users, the nootropic community has reached a consensus on a wise dosage of picamilon. Dosage ranges from 50 to 400 mg per day.

If you are new to nootropics, start out even lower with a micro-dose of 10 mg per day. Gradually ramp up the dosage. This way you can check at a very safe dose for any signs of allergy or skin rash. You will also be able to identify your ideal tolerance, which may well be lower than 50 mg per day.

Accumulative tolerance will occur if you take picamilon every day. Take regular breaks and keep track of how much you take in order to prevent tolerance-creep.

Overdosing with picamilon is extremely rare, but it should remain a concern. Due to the fact that tolerance to the drug can build up, and that sufferers of chronic anxiety are more likely than the average person to take too much of a medication, remember to never exceed more than 400mg a day. The few cases of picamilon overdose recorded have to do with blood pressure lowering too far and increase in blood sugar levels (which is particularly dangerous for people with diabetes).

Picamilon Side Effects

There have been very few (and very minor) Picamilon side effects ever recorded from picamilon ingestion. It is generally considered to be a safe substance. The largest risk for serious damage is present if you have low blood pressure. If you have hypotension or are prone to it, be sure to consult a medical practitioner before taking picamilon, and tell them the nature of the supplement. They may be able to turn you towards another anxiety medication that is less risky for you.

More typical negative reactions include the standard set of reactions – headaches, lightheadedness, dizziness, or nausea. There is such a thing as a red-flush reaction to niacin that will appear on the skin. This is rare, but also harmless. Don’t confuse a harmless red-flush with an allergic reaction, which can be quite serious although they are very rare with picamilon.

Nootropic Stacks with Picamilon

Picamilon can be stacked very will with any racetam. Depending on which you choose, you can increase either the cognitive enhancement effects or the anti-anxiety effects. Combining with piracetam, for example, will enhance the cognitive benefits and motivation. However, some users have reported feeling “manic” when combining these two substances, so exercise caution. On the other hand, ampakine racetams such as aniracetam and oxiracetam will enhance picamilon’s mood-boosting benefits.

Try combining picamilon with non-nootropics, such as valerian root, a European herb used to treat insomnia and chronic anxiety disorder. This is a good stack if you’re interested in picamilon for its sleep-promoting benefits. Or try stacking with kava, a natural remedy used to relieve stress and make you feel calm and happy – a good choice if you want picamilon to help you through a stressful situation.

Where to Buy Picamilon

Where to get Picamilon

As of 2015, the FDA classified Picamilon as a substance that does not meet the requirements of a dietary supplement and is therefore no longer permitted to be sold in the United States. However, no such restrictions have been placed on the UK or most other countries around the world. In the UK you are not asked to have a prescription drug agreement to purchase picamilon.

Closing Thoughts

Picamilon is a fantastic anti-anxiety and pro-alertness nootropic supplement. It can be good for reducing anxiety, feelings of stress and overwhelm while simultaneously increasing feelings of alertness and motivation. If you want to feel focused, relaxed, and stress-free, picamilon might be perfect for you.
